Music Classes for the Young Musician!

I am excited to start up my Music and Motion classes again for little ones here in Utah!  With the weather turning colder, these classes are a wonderful activity to do with your toddler or preschooler if you are feeling cooped up this winter! It’s also a great way to help your child gain musical confidence and burn a little extra energy.

I offer two different Music and Motion classes: one for toddlers and one for preschool-aged children.

TODDLER MUSIC & MOTION CLASS
Ages 18 months – 3 years
In this Music and Motion Classes, we sing, laugh, play, listen, and dance as we learn about and practice:
High and low musical pitches
Musical louds and softs
Rhythm / keeping a beat
Singing in tune
The finger numbers associated with instrumental playing
Playing a variety of different instruments
Having fun while making music

The children are exposed to a variety of musical types and genres, such as: Classical composers, including Beethoven, Bach, Mozart; Jazz & big band music, modern composers such as Copland & Debussy, and music from other cultures. We also enjoy a range of contemporary children’s music.

Classes will be held weekly for 45 minutes on Tuesday mornings from 11:00 – 11:45 a.m. The child and their parent should attend all classes. (Baby siblings are welcome, too!) There will be six classes, held on the following dates: November 13, November 20, November 27, December 4, December 11, and December 18.  If there is enough interest, I might also hold a Monday class at the same time.

A minimum of 5 students need to sign-up in order for me to hold the class. However, due to limited physical space, class sizes will be limited to no more than 8 students, so if you are interested don't hesitate to sign up. The price is a one-time cost of $28, due at the first lesson. To sign-up, reply to this email or call or text me at 801-310-2237.

PRESCHOOL MUSICAL ME CLASS
Ages 3-5
This class is very similar to the toddler music class, except we take the musical concepts a little further. We will also sing, laugh, play, listen, and dance as we learn about and practice:
High and low musical pitches
Musical louds and softs (piano, forte, mezzo forte)
Musical rests
Rhythm / keeping a beat
Basic movement to music
Singing in tune
The finger numbers associated with instrumental playing

The children are also exposed to a variety of musical types and genres, such as: classical composers, including Beethoven, Bach, Mozart, and more, Jazz & big band music, modern composers such as Copland & Debussy, music from other cultures: Eastern African music, Paraguayan flute-playing, traditional Chinese music, Irish Dancing music, and more. We also enjoy a range of contemporary children’s music.

Halloween Piano Recital

Hello, all! I wanted to formally invite you to our Halloween Mini Piano Recital. This recital is for all students and their families. The recital will take place on Monday, October 29 at 6:30 p.m. and should last about 30 - 45 minutes. We will hold the recital in my home. The recital will take the place of all regularly scheduled lessons for the week of October 29. The students should wear either their Sunday best or a Halloween costume for this recital. If wearing a costume, please ensure that the costume does not interfere with their ability to play their best in any way. Light refreshments will follow our musical evening.

I look forward to seeing you all at this evening of spooky and fun Halloween music! Thank you!

Hello, UTAH!

Hello, Utah friends and students!
Remember me?

I  moved back into my same old neighborhood this past week and I am anxious to start teaching piano lessons once again! While in Denver the past three years, I have continued to teach a full load of students - as many as 32 at one time! - and feel that my teaching skills and strategies have been even further honed. I love teaching piano lessons, and am passionate about helping my students enjoy playing and improve their abilities.

I am looking to add about 6 more students to my piano studio this fall. If you or anyone you know is currently looking for a great teacher, please let me know! I am hoping to teach Monday and/or Thursday afternoons.  Look to the side bar on the right there to find quick links to FAQ, information about me and my policies, and more.

Thanks!

Good-bye

It's always hard to say good-bye, especially to so many amazing students whom I have come to love and treasure.  Thank you - everyone of you - for practicing hard, coming to lessons with smiles on your faces and cheerful hearts, for facing your fears, for overcoming your weaknesses, and for making my life brighter through your music and your personalities.  You will be missed!

I have sent home a paper with each one of you regarding recommended piano teachers in the area who are taking on new students.  Please keep playing and never forget the joy music brings to our lives!

Love,

Jennifer

2012 SUMMER PIANO OLYMPICS!

Dear Students and Parents,

This summer we are celebrating the Summer Olympics, and we are going to have our very own Summer Piano Olympics as well!  Your student will bring home a chart this week that looks like this:

Go for the Gold!
Summer 2012 Piano Olympics

Name _____________________________

GOLD MEDAL: 200+ POINTS
SILVER MEDAL: 100 – 200 POINTS
BRONZE MEDAL: 0 – 100 POINTS

The medal ceremony will take place at our Fall Piano Recital.

How to earn points:
Every time you practice your assigned songs for 10 full minutes, you can earn one point.
Every song you pass off earns one point.
Every week you get your parent signature on your practice time earns one point.
You can also earn points for extra assignments that I may give you as needed, such as flashcards or scales.

Please encourage your student to work hard and remember to record their weekly efforts.  This Olympic event ends at the end of August.  Practice hard!  :)  Everyone can be a gold medalist pianist with a little extra effort this summer!
