SPRING BREAK PIANO LESSONS

Spring break is coming up on April 6-10.

During spring break, I am going to hold small group lessons IN PLACE OF regularly scheduled piano lessons.  Here are some details about the group lessons:
  • Each group will meet for an hour of learning and fun!
  • About 4 students will come together at a time, grouped by skill level and age.
  • Each student will perform their recital piece that they are learning for the other students, as a mini recital practice.
  • Students will also participate in learning activities and theory review games. We will focus on musical concepts for each level, do some rhythm practice, and note review.
The cost of this lesson will be the same as for a regular lesson.

I have assigned the students into groups, based on their skill level and ages. However, there is some flexibility. PLEASE CONTACT ME ASAP IF YOUR STUDENT NEEDS TO SWITCH TO A DIFFERENT GROUP DAY/TIME.

If in the unfortunate event your student cannot attend ANY of these group lessons, you are still responsible to pay for this week. I will not be doing make up lessons for students who cannot come to a group lesson.

Here are the groups as I have assigned them. Again, please let me know ASAP if you would like to switch to a different group day/time, and we will work it out if possible.

Recording Studio Lesson!

Next week’s lesson will be our last lesson until January.
It will also be our
Annual “Recording Studio” lesson!

Students will choose 3 – 4 of their favorite and most polished pieces to record.  (Usually recital pieces are good choices for this.)  I will then turn their recordings into musical CDs.

I will give each student one CD of their recordings as my Christmas gift to them!  They will receive their CD’s at our recital.

Be sure that your student brings any music they want to record to next week’s lesson, especially if it was a recital piece or another song that isn’t in their usual books.

Also, a reminder that our recital is scheduled for Thursday, December 18th at 6:30 p.m.  Can’t wait to see you all there!

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Merry Christmas!

Recital Piece and Composer Learning

Dear Parents,

This week I am asking students to learn a bit more about the composer and the song they are learning for our upcoming Classical recital!

They will be bringing home an assignment to find and listen to a recording of their song.  As needed, can you please help them find the music they need on iTunes or another source?  If you need any help finding it at all, please let me know, as I'm happy to help!

Also, they will be trying to learn some basic things about their composers, so you may also want to help them find some good information online or at the library.  Thank you for your help with this, parents!

I know I am asking a bit more of you with this assignment, but as the students work at mastering these wonderful songs they have chosen, I feel that the experience is enhanced as they learn more about the music they are playing.  Thanks again, and don't hesitate to contact me with any questions.

Thanks!

Jennifer

Fall Recital - Classical Music

We are officially planning a recital for this upcoming September!
All students now have chosen their recital song and should be working on it at home. The theme for this recital is classical music, something we haven't done in awhile.  I am so excited about the students' enthusiasm for the beautiful music they have each chosen.

Please let me know if you have any questions.  The date and time of the recital is still TBD, but I will have that information for you in August.

Thanks!

Three Wishes!

Every summer I do some sort of summer program to keep the students excited and progressing during the summer months.

This summer we are doing
 "My Three Wishes!"

Every student has three 'wishes' they are working on.

1. The first wish is a song they wish to learn this summer.  This can be any song they want to learn for fun, from a pop song to a church song, they will all choose something they are excited to learn.

2. The second wish is they are going to wish to learn or accomplish a particular goal in terms of piano skill or understanding this summer.  This might be a goal for flashcards, scales, or finishing a set of books, etc.

3. The third wish says, "My teacher wishes that I will _______________."  This gives me the opportunity to wish for them something specific that I feel they should work on.

There is a big REWARD if they accomplish all their wishes before the end of August, so parents, please ask your students what their three wishes are and encourage them in their efforts.  I know they can all be successful if they work hard and will be improved pianists by the end of this summer!

Happy practicing!

Spring Piano Recital

Mark your calendars, our spring piano recital has tentatively been set for
May 16!
The theme for this recital is "Favorites."
The students will be performing some of their favorite songs!
Whether it is their favorite song from the books, favorite popular song, or favorite movie, it's going to be a great night of music!

More details will come, but I am looking forward to seeing you all there.
